Why does Arabism look like a widow? are not there any happiness in history books?
A new summit in which the Arabs have gathered together for years. Will it add something new to the reality of the Arab citizen? A new summit that is different in form, content, and desire for achievement. Can we? A new statement we are waiting for. Will it be written in purely Arabic ink? And will we Arabs be allowed to agree among ourselves, even for once? Then we watch what we have accomplished during the year, and if we are able to implement promises that the Arab street sees only ink on paper?
We do not write these letters for criticism and peace, but for real pain that hits our exhausted bodies and our sad hearts that are dying little by little from a bitter Arab reality until we ask ourselves, are we alive? Or are we in the tombs of Arabism that does not leave us or leave it?
The summit convenes and we still carry our hopes, dreams, and the future of our children with a bright Arab tomorrow, preferably if it starts with an appreciation of “all the religious, ethnic and linguistic links, preferably if we proceed from a strategic economic-political vision that started with the economy because the economy is the lever of politics in the world of transformations and changes, the policies of the new global poles and the inevitably coming transformations So is our reservation a place among those we deserve while we possess wealth and qualifications that enable us to stand with our heads held high, demanding the least of our rights, which are being sharpened on the streets of capitals?
The convening of the summit in terms of location in the land of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after the major Saudi transformations from the Shanghai talk to the summits with China to economic cooperation and OPEC policies based on the real interest of the global economy and the stability of its markets and keenness on a Saudi role capable of confrontation and presence, especially after the Saudi-Iranian agreement that His turning point in the politics of the region.
From here we see that the summit is ready for the ability of the host to pressure to be the summit of dialogue leading to a decision on a number of basic issues of Arab national security. Statistics for the countries of the Arab region indicate that the economies of the Arab region are expected to grow by 4.5% in 2023 and 3.4% in 2024, taking into account the negative repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine on the global economy, according to the latest version of Survey of Economic and Social Developments in the Arab Region” issued by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia.
More than that, the indicators confirm that after inflation rose in the region, reaching 14% in 2022, it is expected to decrease in the next two years, reaching 8 and 4.5%, respectively. Poverty levels also increased in 2022 compared to previous years, bringing the number of poor people to nearly 130 million people, representing a third of the region’s population, with the exception of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Libya, according to national poverty lines. These levels are expected to continue to rise during the next two years, reaching 36% in 2024. The region also recorded the highest unemployment rate globally in 2022 at 12%, and it may witness a slight decrease in 2023 to reach 11.7% in light of efforts to revive economies after the pandemic. Covid.
Accordingly, what is required today is a clear agenda in support of Palestine and its return to the forefront of issues, perhaps renewing the Arab initiative with a new spirit and emphasizing it in order to prevent confusion in concepts in a savage world and a government of murderous extremists in Israel, and to work as an attempt to heal the wounds and conflicts migrating from Sudan to Yemen in addition to Striving to extricate Lebanon from its crisis, which does not know where it begins and how it ends, but there is no solution without the Arabs, and everyone is aware of that. Certainly, and here we must take the hand of Tunisia and Egypt, where there are many economic crises and the fear of their escaping. The land of Kinana is the heart of the Arabs, which must remain pulsating “through economic-financial companies with wide offerings within packages of reforms as well. The Tunisian situation is worrisome” and the land of Carthage must be Preserving its unity and working to prevent it from slipping, and here as we roam the Maghreb, we must try to heal the rift between Algeria and Morocco, especially since the summit will witness the highest number of Arab presidents, kings and princes. We do not fail here to talk about an approach to the issue of refugees throughout the Arab region and support for the most appropriate solution for their return to their countries, providing them with dignity and pride.
The Arabs need frankness and frankness among themselves, and there must be talk, but not withholds or equivocation, and work to find a ground of cooperation with the active countries of the region under the umbrella of respect and economic cooperation coupled with respect for the sovereignty of states and meeting the transformations of the new multipolar world politically and economically in a real space for those who meet our interests And our rights as Arabs.
The hour today is to meet the Arab youth, who are the weighty mass, and to bring joy not to the peoples of individual countries, but to the peoples of an entire nation, otherwise we will remain on what the great poet Nizar Qabbani said decades ago:
Why does Arabism look like a widow? are not there any happiness in history books?
