The Chairman of the National Investment Commission, Dr. Sami Al-Araji, accompanied by a parliamentary delegation, the Governor and other political and social figures, visited the Union Company for Food Industries Ltd., represented by the sugar and vegetable oil refineries.
Mr. Al-Araji and the attendees expressed their joy at this joyous national achievement, which restores the national industry to its prestige and international presence, as Iraq stands out as a producer, not a consumer.
Mr. Al-Araji and others toured the corridors of the sugar factory and listened to a detailed explanation of the processes in which sugar is produced and the quality system followed in the sugar factory. It is mentioned that the sugar refinery has a production capacity of 3000 tons per day and has filled the country’s needs over the past two years.
Then Al-Araji moved with the honorable audience to the halls of the vegetable oil factory, which has a production capacity of 2000 tons per day, which can fully meet the needs of the ration card. It is worth noting that the factory will witness a doubling of its production capacity to 4000 tons per day at the end of this year. Vegetable oil is the largest in the world in terms of production capacity..and with the completion of the second phase, it will be able to fully supply the needs of the ration card and the local market 100%, and also for export purposes, as in white sugar..
Mr. Al-Araji graciously granted the National Investment License to Mr. Mohammed Hussein Al-Numani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Union Company.
The production of the vegetable oil refining and bottling plant began last month, and this has led to lowering prices, reducing unemployment in the country, preserving the hard currency, and providing strategically important oils.
It is noteworthy that a project to oblige the Ministry of Commerce to purchase the local product of vegetable oils is in the process of being issued, with the efforts of members of the Higher Economic Committee.
